I am completely irresponsible! I bumped into Emily this evening and we went to the pub to while away the time. We had a good old gossip and a bit of a laugh. This is all very well but being late home I still had to do the ironing, check on the nags, feed the birds and water the greenhouse. Now it's bedtime - where does the time go?
The week fairly buzzed by. I had a supper party which was good, although I don't think I was paying attention. Along with the
delicious lobsters, crabs and prawns I added some whelks. I purchased them from my supplier and as I was in a hurry I just picked them up from the counter along with the crabs. The crabs were cooked so I assumed that the whelks were cooked too! It was not until Antoinette and Brendan were muttering about them not coming out of their shells that I realised they were raw - by which time Antoinette had already eaten one! Whoops. I threw the rest in a saucepan in stuck them on the Aga for 15 minutes everything was fine. Much laughter, champagne and wine followed. Unfortunately Charles was a bit poorly so he did not rock up for supper. Probably just as well - it wouldn't do for him to be eating raw whelks!
I went with Felicity to visit the Duchess and walk around her gaff and see her nags - my god she had 36 horses about the place - this is madness - but who cares, she can afford it. Then we had supper which was all very nice. Her garden is quite lovely and the birdsong is something to behold.
My newly laid tarmac is not seeming to like the hot weather and I have got some patches which are chewing up. I phoned the supplier and we had a meeting to address the situation. He obviously thought he was dealing with a dopey female! Big mistake!
Anyway he has now gone off to get the boss out as I made it quite clear I was not about to be paying for any remedial work - this guy chose the wrong person to take the mickey out of.
Camilla went off to Wembley to see Robbie Wiliams and said he was amazing, so were Take That, but not as amazing as RW. Maybe some obscure TV channel will have bought the rights and it may tip up there later. I just love RW.
I tootled off to a great luncheon party this weekend. All the usual suspects (some 200 of us) were there and it was enormous fun. I am sure it was the same marquee that daughter had wedding reception in some 7ish years ago. That marriage is now on the rocks - but the reception at the time was excellent. Mine hosts certainly know how to throw a party. They had an oyster bar there and 3 'shuckers' how cool is that! Well I just love oysters and had at least a dozen, probably more, I lost count. Antoinette was knocking them back - it was just like being in France again! Charles was on extremely good form, he was languishing outside in the sun so I took him a big plateful of oysters. This was followed by a Hog Roast which was simply delicious. I was quite exhausted by the end of it and had had far too much to drink. Still cannot get into LBD so now completely of the booze and back on the bacon diet. I have 2 parties to go to next weekend and do need LBD for one of them!
