Antoinette and I are returned from a lovely break. We had such fun. We set off at the crack of sparrows at the beginning of the week to catch the ferry which was relatively full. This was too much for me so we hastily checked ourselves into Club Class out of the way of the rabble. We had a calm crossing and tootled our way down the right hand side of France to Portbail where we had Moule Frites outside in the sunshine. It was positively idyllic so we decided to make this our base. Eventually after much trouble we found a B & B that Antoinette had read about and called in to see if they could accommodate us. Hooray - they could - they didn't speak a word of English but we got the job sorted. We had a suite of rooms (this is more like it) for 50 Euros per night - madness - you wouldn't get that at my gaff. However for that money we did not get cooked breakfast or our rooms cleaned and it was pretty basic, but nevertheless good. Those frogs don't have the same standards as us. WiFi is all over the town - you don't have to go and have a coffee to get WiFi unlike Ibiza, it is where ever you are. How thoughtful is that? We had the most amazing seafood on both days at the same place by the sea. This little town is completely unspoilt and not one single Englishman in sight - bliss. I would recommend any traveller to go there. We pottered here and there - the only difficulty I had was keeping Antoinette out of the shoe shops - she is like Imelda Marcos, given her way! I am now completely rested and ready to get on with the busy summer. I got on the scales and have not put any weight on - Phew - but I still can't get into my LBD even with my magic knickers on, so it is chicken and vegetable soup for another week! Time is fast running out!
On my return Camilla had managed to keep the Ridley Tiddleys alive, just, he has now given the courtesy car a scrape and has a very bad cut on his hand, which is all wrapped up. I don't know how he did that and I did not feel inclined to ask. 10 days down 11 to go! Tomorrow they celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary!
Both mares are scanned in foal so they will be returning from the Emerald Isle when I can fix up the transport. I need rain as there is nothing in the fields for them, or the others to eat!
